Popular Focus

Some news today from the world of automobile sales, the Ford Focus is the most popularly selling car in the world, with more than a million sold. In the US, the Toyota Camry is still the most popular, but if you start counting markets that are "burgeoning" (as they say) such as China and India, the Focus takes the lead. I'm sure there will be ups and downs, but it's nice to have some good news about a US owned manufacturing company.

I'm actually not sure how I feel about driving the most popular car in the world. I don't normally go in for popularity, but this can only mean good things for me with regards to more data for service departments, more experienced technicians, and higher availability of replacement parts.

Ford may have its problems overall (Let's not forget that Henry Ford was one crazy, offensive, weirdo.), but Ford today has shown themselves pretty good at planning for the future and riding the tides well. Ford rode out the recession by foreseeing it and borrowing to cover anticipated losses before borrowing became difficult. A tough and risky decision to make, I'm sure, but good business in the long run. They avoided bailouts and government entanglement, which I'm sure sells well around the world as well.
